My thoughts about Google+
Have you heard about a service called Google Plus? In case you haven’t, Google Plus is Google’s new attempt at a social network. From my perspective, I’d say that this is their best shot yet.
Do I think Google Plus is going to take over Facebook? To be honest, I’m not sure. There are some features of Google Plus that I like more than Facebook, but on the other hand, there are some aspects of Facebook that make it a better social area. One of the features of Google Plus that I enjoy is called “Circles.” “Circles” is the feature that allows you to put your friends into groups depending on who they are; such as coworkers, family, friends, or acquaintances. Another cool feature with “Circles” is that you can monitor what each circle can view. For example: if you wanted to post something for your family that you didn’t want your boss or coworkers to see, you can make it exclusively viewable to the people in your family “Circle.” And another highlight feature of Google Plus that I want to share is a thing called “Hangout.” “Hangouts” are like mass chats but you can video chat with multiple friends at the same time, so it’s like you’re actually hanging out with a group of people.
So with all the good things about Google Plus, there are a few things that I still worry about and there is still some stuff that I don’t like. One problem is that there’s no Wall or “posting” feature, like in Facebook. This makes it hard to communicate with people. You can make “status” updates that people can comment on, but it’s not the same as having a Wall that people can go and post to at any time. But my biggest concern is the issue of security. It feels like Google has done too much integrating of other Google services; such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar- which could pose a problem with security. However, all of the reports I have read though have not mentioned anything about a security risk, so it could just be me.
In conclusion, I think that if we give Google Plus a year or so to grow and make changes, it could be a pretty decent service to use. It may even get to the point where is does beat Facebook out- ultimately becoming the hottest social networking site there is.
